André Mola

André Mola grew up with the traditional sounds of caipira music in the Brazilian countryside, learning to play the viola caipira. In the early 1990s, he moved to São Paulo, where he began blending those rural roots with urban influences. His 1996 album 'Caipira Urbano' gave a name to this fusion, with the title track becoming particularly well-known.

That song, along with others like 'À Leste Daqui' and 'Sertão Não É Céu', captured the experience of people moving between rural and city life. He worked with musicians including Luiz Carlos dos Santos on viola caipira and Marcos Pereira on bass. Later albums like 'Convite ao Moço da Cidade' and 'Toque de Viola' continued this exploration.

Some traditionalists criticized his departure from pure caipira sounds, but Mola kept developing his approach. His music, which also includes songs like 'Nossas Vidas Secas' and 'O Espaço', connected with listeners across different parts of Brazil.
