Andy Shauf grew up in Regina, Saskatchewan, where his father's record collection introduced him to artists like Joni Mitchell and Neil Young. He released his first album, 'Darktown Field,' in 2012, followed by 'The Bearer of Bad News,' which helped establish his presence in indie music circles.

His 2016 album 'The Party' brought wider attention, with songs like 'Quite Like You' and 'Early To The Party' capturing the quiet tensions of social gatherings. The album's detailed character sketches and spare arrangements felt both intimate and slightly uneasy, like overhearing conversations at a neighborhood get-together.

Shauf has continued writing and recording despite health challenges, including a diagnosis of Ménière's disease in 2018 that affected his balance and hearing. His songs, including 'The Magician' and 'To You,' maintain that careful, observational quality, less concerned with big statements than with the small moments where people reveal themselves.
