Angela Luce

Angela Luce was a Neapolitan singer active in the early 20th century. Her voice carried the traditional sounds of Naples, with mandolins and accordions backing her recordings. She worked with her husband, the actor and playwright Raffaele Viviani, who wrote many of her lyrics.

Her most famous song, "Ah L'ammore Che Ffa Fà," was recorded in 1921 and became something of a Neapolitan standard. Other songs like "Ipocrisia" and "Lili Kangy" show her range within that tradition. Viviani's political views sometimes drew attention during the Fascist period, which created complications for their work.

She left behind a catalog of singles and albums that document a particular strain of Neapolitan music from that era. The recordings have a straightforward, unadorned quality that feels of its time and place.
