Angélica Maria

Angélica María was born in New Orleans to Mexican parents, which gave her music a particular cross-cultural feel from the start. She signed her first record deal at 15 and released her self-titled debut album in 1960. Her breakout came with the 1962 single 'A Dónde Va Nuestro Amor,' a ballad about lost love that became her signature song and established her in Latin music.

Her catalog grew to include over 40 studio albums, with titles like 'La Novia' in 1967 and 'Feeling' in 1974. Other songs like 'Donde estás vidita mía' and 'Fortachon' show the range of romantic themes she worked with. She recorded a version of 'Abre El Corazón (Open Up Your Heart)' and later collaborated with Angelica Vale and Gloria Trevi on 'El Favor de La Soledad.'

Angélica María has spoken about dealing with depression and the pressures that came with her career. She kept recording and performing through those challenges, maintaining a presence in Mexican and Latin American music for decades without being part of a band or permanent group.
