Angelina Lokua was born in 1977 in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo. She left the country at sixteen for Europe, where she began building a music career. Her first album came out in 2005, called "Loketo."
She put out "Ensoleillée" in 2007 and "Essence" in 2015. In 2006, she released the song "Alguém Para Amar," which became widely heard. She has worked with other musicians like Youssou N'Dour, Manu Dibango, and Baaba Maal.
Lokua has been recognized with awards including France's Victoires de la Musique. Her music draws from African rhythms and Western styles, and she has been known to speak on social and political matters.
