Archive material and source history

Angudadá formed in Salvador, Bahia in the early 1990s as a five-piece collective. The group took its name from a phrase meaning "sun's gate," drawing from Candomblé traditions. Their debut album 'Andar de Trem' came out in 1993, with the title track becoming a hit in Brazil.

That first record mixed samba, reggae, and axé, anchored by songs like 'Etezim' and 'Macacada.' The band faced some criticism for how they handled Afro-Brazilian cultural elements, and their lyrics occasionally drew complaints about content. They kept recording through the 1990s and into the 2000s, putting out albums like 'Corra, Menino, Corra' and 'Africanizando.'

Their sound stayed rooted in Bahian rhythms while incorporating contemporary touches. Tracks such as 'Dragão' and 'Lua-Gira-Sol' show that blend. The group released five studio albums in total, the last being 'Axé pra Curar' in 2012.
