Background notes

Archive material and source history

Angus formed in 1982 from the remains of another band called the Angles, with Keith Scott on vocals, Richard "Riff" Randall on guitar, Scott "Sarge" Russell on bass, and John Jennings on drums. They were based in London and developed a raw, energetic sound that found an audience there.

Their 1984 debut album "Warriors of the World" included the title track that became a global hit. The song "Warriors of the World" and others like "Freedom fighter" and "If God's in Heaven (why is there Hell on Earth)" showed their tendency toward political and social themes in their lyrics, which drew both supporters and critics.

Internal tensions led to a split in 1986, with Scott and Russell leaving while Randall and Jennings continued with new members. The original lineup reunited briefly in 2001 for some live shows, though they didn't record new material together after that.
