Aníbal Rosas

Aníbal Rosas came up in the mid-1990s with his debut album 'Alguém,' which took its name from the title track. That song, a ballad about unrequited love, got him noticed across Brazil. He was from Salvador, Bahia, and grew up around music, with influences that ran from traditional Brazilian rhythms to the work of poets like Vinicius de Moraes.

His writing often dealt with love and loss, as you can hear in songs like 'Carência' and 'Erros.' He put out a handful of albums through the late '90s and early 2000s, including 'Cores' in 1997 and a self-titled record in 1999. For a while he worked with musicians like percussionist Carlinhos Brown and guitarist Kiko Freitas.

Rosas had a way of drawing attention beyond just his music. He was known for being outspoken, and his political views stirred things up. There were also allegations of plagiarism at one point, which he denied. He kept recording into the 2000s, with albums like 'Rosa' in 2002 and a live set in 2004.
