Anna Murphy is a London-born musician who first gained attention as the vocalist for the experimental rock band Me Rex. The group, which included guitarist Jamie Hince and drummer Tom White, released two albums in the mid-2000s: 'Deadweight' and 'The Evening Sun.' Their sound was built around atmospheric arrangements and Murphy's distinctive voice, which drew comparisons to artists like P.J. Harvey and Björk.

After Me Rex disbanded in 2009, Murphy worked quietly for several years before reemerging with her solo single 'Harley Quinn' in 2019. The song, a moody tribute to the DC Comics character, found an audience online and became her most recognizable track. She followed it with other songs like 'Lovelornia' and 'Mayday,' maintaining the atmospheric quality of her earlier work while exploring more personal themes.
