Annie Ross was a vocalist who came up in the late 1940s, working with figures like Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie in the bebop scene. She was born in London but raised in the United States, and she also acted and wrote lyrics.
In 1955, she recorded with The Low Note Quintet, which included trumpeter Conte Candoli, saxophonist Zoot Sims, pianists Dave McKenna and Jimmy Rowles, and drummer Shelly Manne. Their track together, 'Conversation On A Barstool,' features lyrics Ross wrote with McKenna.
