Anno Zero formed in Los Angeles in the late 1990s, led by vocalist and songwriter Max Volkov. Their debut album 'Ashes to Dust' drew attention for its raw energy and unflinching lyrics. The band's sound pulled from alternative rock and grunge, with some electronic touches mixed in.

In 2003, they released 'Addicted,' a single that became their biggest hit. The song's haunting melody and Volkov's raw delivery captured something about the torment of addiction that connected with listeners. Other tracks like 'Another Pleasant Evening' and 'Poison Mind' showed the same willingness to explore darker themes.

Volkov's outspoken lyrics and abrasive stage presence drew criticism from some, while others praised his authenticity. The band disbanded in 2009 after years of internal turmoil, with Volkov pursuing a solo career afterward.
