Ansata formed in Los Angeles with vocalist Kael Mordath. Their 2006 album 'Above Them All' gave them their breakthrough, with the title track becoming a fan favorite. The band's music often dealt with heavy themes that sometimes drew criticism from more conservative listeners.

They built their sound around multi-part compositions like the 'Crux Ansata' series, which spanned three tracks on their albums. Songs like 'Choices' showed their ability to balance aggression with more melodic elements.

Internal tensions grew as the band became more successful. Guitarist Ethan Blackmore and bassist Damien Thorne eventually left the group, though the exact circumstances around their departures aren't well documented. Mordath's personal struggles reportedly contributed to the creative friction.
