Antídoto Base formed in São Paulo in the early 2000s, when childhood friends Rodrigo Amarante, Marcelo Camelo, and André Godinho started playing together. Their music pulled from Brazilian folk, electronic textures, and experimental rock, though they never settled neatly into any one category. Their debut album 'Supernova' came out in 2003, followed by 'Luz' in 2006 and 'Caminho' in 2009.
Their song 'Água Viva' became something of an anthem, though the band's lyrics sometimes drew criticism from conservative groups. They kept writing about social and political themes anyway. Amarante sang lead with a distinctive falsetto, while Camelo handled much of the songwriting.
By 2013 they had released a fourth album called 'Mar'. Other songs in their catalog include 'Ana', 'Anjos e Malditos', and 'Brasília Mon Amour'.
