Antonio Climério

Antonio Climério came up in Ceará, in Brazil's northeast, where he grew up hearing forró. That sound stuck with him. In the 1990s, his debut album 'Forró do Climério' found an audience, helped along by the song 'Milagre No Supermercado.'

His career has had its rough patches. There was a copyright dispute in 2002, and later, in 2006, an arrest for domestic violence that led to a public reckoning. He's kept making music through it, with albums coming out every few years into the 2020s.

He often works with accordionist Edinho, and his band has included Rafael de Almeida on bass and Maycon Oliveira on drums. The music has shifted some over time, pulling in other styles while staying grounded in forró.
