Antropomorfia formed in Chile in the late 1980s, playing a mix of death metal with thrash and black metal elements. Their first release was the 1990 EP 'Un Hedor Pestilente,' which established their sound. The band's lineup included Felipe Plaza on vocals, Juan Pablo Plaza on guitars, Sergio Godoy on drums, and Juan Pablo Vergara on bass.
They followed that EP with a demo called 'Antropología' in 1991, then a full-length album under the same name in 1994. Over the next two decades, they released several more records, including 'El Sacrificio' in 2002, 'Sic Sacerdotibus' in 2007, and 'Blasphemous' in 2013.
Their music and imagery sometimes drew criticism, particularly from religious groups. In 2002, they were briefly detained after a show in Santiago, though no charges stuck. They built a following mostly through underground channels rather than mainstream support.
