He was born in Santos in 1945. His early work was produced by Milton Nascimento. Marcos released several albums in quick succession, including 'Marcos' in 1970 and 'Marcos IV' in 1973.
His personal life was difficult. He struggled with alcoholism and depression. In 1979, he was involved in a car accident that resulted in two fatalities, which led to a criminal investigation and affected his health.
