April 99 formed in London in 1999 with vocalist Danni Nichols, guitarist Nick Rhodes, bassist Dave Baynton, and drummer Tim Henwood. They started playing small shows around the UK, building a following before recording their first album.
Their debut album 'The Heart of It All' came out in 2001, but it was the single 'Believer' that really connected with people. The song had a straightforward rock energy that worked on radio and in clubs, becoming their most recognizable track.
They released two more albums, 'The Dream Within' in 2003 and 'Looking for the Sun' in 2006. Nichols spoke publicly about dealing with depression and anxiety around 2002, and the band had some legal trouble over a sample in another song that got settled out of court.
