A.R. 40° formed in Porto Alegre in southern Brazil during the late 1990s. The original lineup included Alexandre Rey on vocals and guitar, Rafael Bittencourt on guitar, Paulo Gaiger on bass, and Marcelo Moreira on drums. Their early sound mixed pop, rock, and Brazilian rhythms, and they had a breakout with the single "Sou Eu Assim Sem Você."
They released several albums between 1998 and 2011, including their self-titled debut in 1998, "Lugar Comum" in 2000, and "Aura" in 2011. The band's lineup changed over time, with Maurício Barros eventually playing bass and Adriano Daga on drums. Their music sometimes addressed social and political topics in the lyrics.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
