Arautos Profanos formed in Recife during the 1980s with Ceceu on vocals. Their song 'Nordeste Arretado' came out in 1985 and became known for its driving rhythm and lyrics about the Northeast region. The band also recorded 'Tributo a Chico Mendes' and 'A Rosa'.
Their music mixed punk and rock with Northeastern rhythms. They released albums like 'Favela' in 1988 and 'Baile da Noite' in 1992. Other members included guitarist Artur 'Cascão' and bassist Avohai.
Their lyrics often dealt with social issues, which sometimes drew attention from authorities. They kept recording into the 2000s with 'A Volta do Rei' and an acoustic album in 2005.
