Arben formed in Santo Domingo in 1999, started by brothers Alex and Javier Antigua with their cousin Marcos Yaroide. They took the band's name from their initials. For several years they played local bars and festivals around the Dominican Republic before things shifted in 2005.
That year they released the album "Dejando Huellas," which included the song "Irremplazable." That track became their signature, a ballad about unrequited love that connected with listeners across Latin America. It gave the band its first real visibility beyond their home scene.
In 2007 they had to pause briefly due to a legal dispute over the band name. They returned afterward and kept recording. Their catalog since then has been built around that same emotional, melodic style they established early on.
