Archie Bleyer was a bandleader and arranger who worked in the swing era. He played piano and studied arranging, and he was part of Tommy Dorsey's orchestra before starting his own group in 1944. His version of 'Hernando's Hideaway' came out in 1946 and became his best-known recording.
That song, written by Richard Adler and Jerry Ross, had a mambo rhythm that caught on. Bleyer's orchestra also recorded tunes like 'Naughty Lady of Shady Lane' and 'The Rockin' Ghost.' He kept working as musical tastes changed, but he's remembered mostly for that mid-1940s period when his band was popular on the radio and in dance halls.
