Archimède formed in Montpellier in 2005 with Nicolas Giraud on vocals and guitar, Julien Boyer on bass, Sébastien Gautier on guitar, and Antoine Rajon on drums. They started playing small venues and local festivals around that time.
Their debut album 'A L'ombre' came out in 2008, and the title track got some radio play. The album had a few other songs that stuck around, like 'Au Diable Vauvert' and 'Bye Bye Bailleur'.
Some critics found their lyrics too emotional, but they kept working. They never really broke through to a mainstream audience, but they developed a following for their live shows.
