Argemiro Patrocínio

Argemiro Patrocínio came up in Ipatinga, Minas Gerais, and started playing guitar with his siblings. His debut album in 1996, 'Vou Me Embora Para Bem Longe,' gave him a national hit with the title track, a song about leaving and distance that caught on quickly.

His writing often dealt with social issues and political frustration, which sometimes got him into trouble. In 2007, a track called 'Olha a Cobra' led to a defamation case from a senator, though it also found an audience with people who were fed up with the system. Other songs like 'Lamento de Um Portelense' and 'Saia da Casa Dos Outros' show that direct, sometimes confrontational style.

He's put out records fairly steadily since the nineties, including 'Pé Na Estrada' in 2002 and 'Identidade' in 2015. His sound pulls from folk, rock, and samba, and he's worked with artists like Gilberto Gil and Milton Nascimento.
