Argentino Luna

Argentino Luna was born Antonio Ferreyra in 1943 in San Pedro, Argentina. He came up listening to traditional folk styles and artists like Atahualpa Yupanqui and Jorge Cafrune. In the late 1960s, he put out his self-titled debut album, which found an audience with its blend of lyrical poetry and straightforward melodies.

His song 'Gallito Del Aire' came out in 1972 and became his most recognizable piece. It's about a heartbroken gaucho wandering the countryside, and its chorus, 'Soy el gallito del aire, que anda buscando su nido', stuck with people. Other songs like 'Mire Que Es Lindo Mi País, Paisano' and 'Palabras Para Mi Hija' continued in that vein, capturing everyday scenes and feelings without much fuss.

He kept writing and playing through it, though the existing record doesn't spell out exactly how that period shaped his later work. The songs themselves, plainspoken, rooted in place, seem to have carried on regardless.
