Aricó Junior was a band from Salvador, Bahia that formed in the late 1970s. They were led by vocalist Juarez de Oliveira, with Raimundo dos Santos on guitar, Jorge da Silva on bass, and Osvaldo Souza on drums. Their music drew from Afro-Brazilian rhythms and had a psychedelic edge.
In 1979 they released "Iucaidi, Icaida," a song with a haunting melody and cryptic lyrics that some listeners connected to indigenous rituals. The track became their most recognized work, though its meaning remained open to interpretation.
The band released several albums through the 1980s, including Aruanda in 1981 and Raízes in 1983.
