Arigatões

Arigatōes formed in Rio de Janeiro with members Marcos Vinicius on vocals, Pedro Henrique on guitar, Rafael Almeida on bass, and Tiago Silva handling percussion. Their debut album 'Som do Koo' came out in 2016, with the title track becoming something of an anthem for them. They followed it with 'Samba Nova' in 2018 and 'Tempo Presente' in 2020.

Their sound mixed samba with contemporary beats, which didn't sit well with some traditionalists. Songs like '40 Segundos' and 'Tentáculos do Amor' show how they approached that blend. They kept at it despite the occasional pushback from purists who questioned what they were doing.

Beyond their own recordings, their approach seemed to open things up for other musicians working with samba. They weren't the only ones doing it, but they became one of the more visible groups trying to stretch the genre's boundaries in the 2010s.
