Arnaldo Brandão

Arnaldo Brandão came up in João Pessoa, a coastal city in Brazil's northeast. He started playing guitar and singing early, drawing from the forró and baião rhythms that were part of the local sound. In 1980 he put out his first album, 'Semente do Pensamento,' which got some attention for how it mixed those traditional styles with more contemporary touches.

Two years later, the album 'Pé de Bode' had the song that really connected with people: 'Radio Blá.' It was catchy and direct, and it became a national hit. That track, along with others like 'Alicinha (Que Delícia)' and 'São Sete,' gave him a platform. His lyrics sometimes touched on social issues, which brought him both fans and critics.

He kept recording and performing after that, working with other artists occasionally, like on 'A Falange do Cavalo Branco' with Tavinho Paes and Leela. The music stayed rooted in those northeastern rhythms, even as his songwriting evolved.
