Arnaldo Ferraz was born in Fortaleza, Brazil. He grew up listening to samba, bossa nova, and MPB, with Tom Jobim and Elis Regina among his early influences.
In the early 1970s, he started playing with a band. Their music mixed Brazilian rhythms with more contemporary sounds. By 1975, he had written "My Darling," which became his best-known song. It did well on the charts in Brazil.
Later in the 1970s, some critics questioned his use of international influences in his music. He kept working anyway.
