Arnaldo Freitas

Arnaldo Freitas was born in Rio de Janeiro in 1965. He grew up listening to samba and bossa nova, and as a teenager he got into the music of João Gilberto, Chico Buarque, and Caetano Veloso.

He released his first album in 1985, which was simply called 'Arnaldo Freitas.' It got some good reviews and helped him start to build a name. Five years later, his album 'Odeon' came out, and the title track became his most well-known song. It's a simple, sad ballad that connected with people in Brazil and elsewhere.

Freitas kept making music after that, putting out records like 'Canções do Nosso Tempo' in 1997 and 'Zarathustra' in 2010. His songs often have a melancholy feel, and his private life and lyrics have sometimes drawn attention and speculation from the press.
