Arnaldo Antunes, a poet and songwriter, started Arnaldo & Patrulha do Espaço with musician Marcelo Fromer in 1981. Their early sound mixed rock with samba and other Brazilian elements, which didn't fit neatly into existing categories at the time.
In 1986, the band released the album 'Samba Esquema Novo.' The single 'Cortar Jaca' from that record caught on with Brazilian audiences, becoming one of their best-known songs. Another track, 'Sexy Sua,' also gained attention.
The group's lineup shifted over time, with bassist André Jungmann and drummer Rafael Castro being consistent presences. They worked with other musicians and occasionally collaborated with established Brazilian artists like Gilberto Gil and Caetano Veloso.
Their music continued to develop in less conventional directions, incorporating more experimental sounds and lyrical approaches as they moved forward.
