Arsenal formed in Heredia, Costa Rica in 2004 with Fabián Corrales on vocals, guitarists Diego Fernández and Juan Pablo Calvo, bassist Byron Salazar, and drummer Mauricio Chacón. They released their debut album 'El Ritual de lo Profundo' in 2008, which included the song 'Ángel del dolor' that became popular in Costa Rica.
Their music often dealt with darker themes, as heard in songs like 'Heridas abiertas' and 'Escudos humanos'. In 2010, their track 'Sexo' drew some criticism for its lyrics, though it remained one of their more recognized songs.
They put out two more albums, 'La Región del Silencio' in 2013 and 'Maras' in 2017. In 2014, they received an ACAM Award for Best Rock Band.
