Art Brut

Art Brut formed in London in 2003 with Eddie Argos on vocals, Ian Catskilkin and Freddy Feedback on guitars, and Matt Helders on drums. They signed to Rough Trade Records the following year. Their early single 'Formed a Band' became a calling card, a straightforward declaration of intent that set the tone for much of what followed.

Eddie Argos's talk-sung delivery and observational lyrics gave their music a particular character. Songs like 'Emily Kane' and 'Modern Art' often dealt with relationships and everyday frustrations with a direct, sometimes humorous touch. They released their debut album 'Bang Bang Rock & Roll' in 2005.

Their approach drew both fans and critics. Some found the lyrics provocative or questioned their depth, while Argos maintained they reflected ordinary complexities. The band kept making records, with later songs like 'Alcoholics Unanimous' continuing in a similar vein of wry, guitar-driven commentary.
