Arthur Felipe

Arthur Felipe is a musician from Rio de Janeiro who works with chorinho, a traditional Brazilian genre that came out of the city's streets in the late 1800s. He grew up around music and spent time with the sounds of older players like Pixinguinha and Jacob do Bandolim.

His first album came out in 2006, called 'A Alma do Choro Cantado.' The title track from that record is still one of his better-known pieces. He sings and plays guitar, and his approach sometimes brings in bits of jazz and other Brazilian popular styles.

There was a plagiarism accusation in 2010 that got some attention, though it was eventually dismissed. A few years later he was dealing with a lung condition, but he kept performing and recording through it.
