Ary Barros Cantor

Ary Barros Cantor came up in the early 1990s, performing at local events and festivals in his home region. He put out his debut album in 1995, which included what would become his signature song, 'Vaqueiro Campeão.' The track turned into something of an anthem for the vaquejada scene, the cowboy competitions that are central to the culture in parts of Brazil like his home state of Ceará.

His music is rooted in that regional folklore and the rhythms of vaquejada. Songs like 'Paixão De Vaqueiro' and 'A Filha do Vaqueiro' are straightforward celebrations of that cowboy life, delivered with a direct, heartfelt vocal style. He built a career on these themes, releasing albums with titles like 'O Rei da Vaquejada' in 1999 and 'Meu Vaqueiro' in 2007.

While his lyrics sometimes touched on social issues affecting the people he sang about, which drew some attention, his work stayed focused on the world of the vaqueiro. He performed with a band, handling vocals and guitar himself, and kept recording through the 2000s and into the 2010s with albums like 'A Lenda' in 2012.
