As Claves de Sol formed in Salvador, Bahia in 1969 as a trio with Armandinho Macedo on vocals and guitar, Luiz Galvão on bass, and Paulo César Barros on keyboards. Their song 'Vem Meu Bem' became their most recognizable track, giving its name to their 1971 album.
They released several albums in the early 1970s including 'As Claves de Sol' in 1970, 'Vem Meu Bem' in 1971, and 'Tá Tudo Tranquilo' in 1973. Their music mixed Brazilian rhythms with pop elements, which drew some criticism from traditionalists at the time.
They continued recording through that period, releasing 'As Claves de Sol 5' that same year.
