As Gaivotas

As Gaivotas formed in the early 2000s when three friends from Juiz de Fora, Thiago Castanho, Fábio Almeida, and Ramiro Musso, started playing music together. They released their self-titled debut album in 2010, which included the song "Caroneira." That track became popular enough that some listeners treated it as an anthem, though the band's catalog includes other songs like "O Dono da Minha Vida" and "Sentada À Beira do Caminho."

Their music drew some criticism for being overly romantic or apolitical, but they kept making the kind of songs they wanted to make. Over the next several years they put out albums like "Aqui Agora" in 2012 and "Nosso Mundo" in 2014. The lineup eventually grew to include Felipe Navas on bass and Gui Marques on keyboards alongside the original three members.

As Gaivotas kept recording into the late 2010s with "Pra Vida Inteira" in 2016. Their songs tend to deal with straightforward emotional themes, love, longing, the small moments of daily life, set to melodic rock arrangements. They never became huge stars outside certain circles in Brazil, but they built a loyal following who connected with their direct, unpretentious approach.
