Archive material and source history

As the Sea Parts formed in Boston in 2011, starting with Erik Czaja on vocals and guitar, Chris Self on bass, and John Rockland on drums. They put out their first album, Amnesty, in 2013, which included the title track and songs like Fear Itself. The band's sound leaned toward ethereal and introspective rock, with lyrics that often dealt with themes of forgiveness and human fragility.

In 2015, Self left and was replaced by bassist Jonathan Baros. The group released A Want for Empty the following year, a darker record that explored loss and longing. In 2018, Czaja departed amid accusations of inappropriate behavior, and Marshall Day joined as the new vocalist and guitarist. The current lineup of Day, Rockland, and Baros released The Shade in 2020, returning to some of the atmospheric textures of their earlier work.

Their catalog includes tracks like Wielding Iron Fists, Eye Of The Storm, and Black Lit Knights. The music doesn't chase trends so much as build moody, layered spaces around poetic lyrics. They've kept a relatively low profile since the lineup changes, but the three albums stand as a consistent body of work from a band that has weathered its share of shifts.
