Asaka

Asaka formed in Tokyo in 2003, with Riyu Kosaka on vocals and lyrics, Yusuke Asano on guitar, and Masato Morimoto on bass. Their early sound mixed Japanese folk with rock and ambient textures, which didn't fit neatly into existing scenes. Their debut album came out in 2005 and included 'I Believe What You Said,' a song that connected with listeners looking for something quieter and more reflective than typical pop.

They kept recording through the late 2000s and into the 2010s, putting out albums like 'Resonance' in 2007 and 'Silence' in 2009. The work from this period leaned into piano and strings, and some of it got experimental with electronica. In 2015 they did a collaborative album with classical guitarist Kazuhito Yamashita called 'Echoes.'

But that directness is what listeners responded to. Alongside 'I Believe What You Said,' tracks like 'natsuyume noisy' and 'Shiny Days' have stayed in rotation for fans who appreciate their particular blend of folk melody and atmospheric arrangement.
