Asobi Ni Iku Yo! came out of the Japanese underground in the late 1990s. Their song 'Kokoro no Madobe Nite' became a cult favorite, and they put out albums like 'Haru no Ashita' in 2000, 'Kono Sekai no Hate' in 2002, and 'Umi no Koe' in 2004.
Their music mixed dream pop and shoegaze with ambient textures, and the lyrics often dealt with raw emotion. Other songs in their catalog include 'Happy Sunshine' and 'Now Loading... Sky!!'.
The band was known for unconventional live shows, and singer Mao's personal struggles sometimes drew attention away from the music. They kept releasing records through the 2000s, with 'Sora no Mukou' in 2006 and 'Ano Hi Kara' in 2009.
