Astroboy was a Brazilian techno group that formed in the late 1990s around DJ Marky and Renato Ratier. They worked with breakbeats and Brazilian rhythms, and their debut album 'Astroboy' included the track 'Festa no Apê.' They also released albums called 'Ultrassom' and 'Ritmo Quente.'
Some of their lyrics drew accusations of misogyny and homophobia, which led to radio bans in Brazil. But their song 'Tema de Encerramento' was later taken up as an anthem by the LGBTQ+ community there.
Their tracks like 'Bang,' 'Believer,' and 'Brainwashed' show the kind of pulsing, syncopated sound they were known for. Marky was a resident DJ at Club Vibe, and Ratier handled much of the production.
