Archive material and source history
Atenna formed in Portugal in 1986, with Pedro Ayres Magalhães on vocals, Rui Tavares on bass, Tozé Moreira on drums, and Paulo Pedro Gonçalves on guitar. They released their self-titled debut album that same year. The band played Rock in Rio in 1986 and again in 1991.
Their song 'A Verdade Crua e Fria' became a staple of Portuguese rock. It appeared on the soundtrack of the 2019 film 'Diamantino.' Atenna's lyrics sometimes addressed difficult subjects, which drew attention in Portugal.
They put out several albums through the late '80s and '90s, including 'Ritual' in 1987, '1990' in 1990, 'Vivo' in 1995, and 'Raízes' in 1998. A compilation called '20 Anos' came out in 2006.
