Aterciopelados

Aterciopelados formed in 1990 around Andrea Echeverri and Héctor Buitrago, who met while studying fine arts at Bogotá's Universidad de los Andes. Their early sound drew from Colombian folk music and the alternative rock of that decade, though some critics initially dismissed it as too unconventional. They kept working anyway, and their debut album 'Con el Corazón en la Mano' arrived in 1998.

Songs like 'Bolero Falaz' and 'Florecita Rockera' became anthems in Colombia, mixing rock and pop with traditional rhythms. Echeverri's vocals and lyrics often touched on social themes, while Buitrago's bass lines helped shape their musical direction. The band's work has been noted for its eclecticism and lyrical depth, though they've generally avoided the more dramatic claims sometimes attached to their story.

They've released albums like 'Gozo Poderoso' in 2000 and 'Evolución' in 2002, maintaining a presence in Latin American music without forcing a grand narrative about their impact. Tracks such as 'Baracunatana' and 'El Album' show their range, blending accessible melodies with thoughtful writing. Their music continues to resonate with listeners who appreciate that combination.
