Athanor

Athanor formed in Sweden in 1997, working in black metal with the kind of raw, atmospheric sound that came out of that scene at the time. They kept their identities hidden, going by the names Chaostar on guitar and vocals, Mortifer on bass, and Infernal on drums. Their first album, 'Necrolegions: Dawn of the Dark Millennium,' came out in 1999 and included the track 'Necrolegion of Shaytan.'

That song became their most recognized piece, a straightforward example of their style. They followed it with two more albums: 'Angelus Necromanticus' in 2001 and '666: The Ascendancy' in 2003. The band's lyrics dealt with dark, occult themes, which drew some criticism, but they described it as artistic expression. After 2003, there isn't much public activity noted.
