Archive material and source history

Atomic Rooster formed in 1969 with Vincent Crane on keyboards and vocals, Carl Palmer on drums, Nick Graham on bass, and John Du Cann on guitar and vocals. Their self-titled debut album came out in 1970, and its single 'Black Snake' reached the UK top 10. That early lineup didn't last long, Du Cann left in 1971, and Palmer followed soon after, leaving Crane as the only original member.

Crane kept the band going through the early 1970s with shifting personnel. They put out albums like 'Death Walks Behind You' and 'In Hearing Of,' which had tracks such as 'Breakthrough' and 'Friday the 13th.' Their sound mixed rock with blues and psychedelic touches, often leaning toward the darker side.

By 1975, Atomic Rooster had dissolved. Crane died in 1989. There were brief reunions in the 1980s and 2000s, but the band's main output remains those early 1970s records.
