Atoms For Peace

Atoms For Peace formed in 2009 around Radiohead's Thom Yorke and producer Nigel Godrich. They brought in Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers on bass, along with drummer Joey Waronker and keyboardist Mauro Refosco. The group released just one studio album, 2013's 'Amok,' which leaned into electronic textures and rhythmic experiments rather than conventional rock structures.

Songs like 'Ingénue' and 'Before Your Very Eyes' from that album show the band's preference for layered, atmospheric arrangements. The music often feels more like a collective exploration than a set of traditional songs, with Yorke's vocals floating over intricate, sometimes hypnotic patterns.

While the project was sometimes described as a side venture or supergroup, it had its own distinct sound, less guitar-driven than Radiohead, more rhythmically detailed and electronically inclined. The lineup never made another album, but 'Amok' remains a curious, one-off document of that particular collaboration.
