Atrophy

Atrophy was a thrash metal band from California that started playing in the late 1980s. Their first album, Socialized Hate, came out in 1988, followed by Violent By Nature the next year. That second record included the track 'Matter Of Attitude,' which became one of their better-known songs.

They had a lineup with Steve Gaines on vocals, Chris Lytle and James Gulotta on guitars, Tommy Roberts on bass, and Tim Kelly on drums. Their lyrics often dealt with social issues, which sometimes drew attention or criticism. In 1990 they put out a third album called Mental Suicide.

Some of their other songs that people remember include 'Preacher, Preacher,' 'Slipped Through The Cracks,' and 'Beer Bong.' They played fast, aggressive thrash metal with shouted vocals, part of that late-'80s wave of bands from the West Coast. After the early 1990s, they weren't as active, but those first few records stuck around in thrash circles.
