Editor's note

Attack! (EUA) and the pop-punk scene's brief flash

A Columbus band that caught fire with 'Stick Stickly' before shifting into heavier territory.

For their early energy, 'Stick Stickly' still holds up. 'Fade With Me' gives a clearer sense of where they were headed.

They were one of those bands that defined a moment in late-2000s pop-punk, especially with 'Stick Stickly' becoming an instant scene anthem. The plagiarism controversy around 'Smokahontas' and the lineup drama added a messy, real edge to their story. Later tracks like 'Fade With Me' showed them trying to push beyond that early sound.

They started in Columbus around 2006 and got attention with their 2008 EP. After lineup changes and a plagiarism issue, they released 'Self-Portrait' in 2010 and 'This Means War' in 2012, which leaned into a heavier, more experimental direction.

Attack! Attack! (EUA) started in Columbus, Ohio around 2006. They were a pop-punk band that got attention with their 2008 EP and its title track 'Stick Stickly', which became a quick favorite in the scene. The lineup originally had Caleb Shomo on vocals, Andrew Whiting and Nick Thompson on guitars, Adam White on bass, and Andrew Wetzel on drums.

In 2009, the band faced some trouble when people noticed similarities between their song 'Smokahontas' and a track by Hit the Lights, which led to accusations of plagiarism. Around the same time, internal tensions grew, partly due to Shomo's approach clashing with others, and Thompson and White left in 2010. They brought in Ryan Nelson and Andrew Fulk on guitars and put out their first full album, 'Self-Portrait', that same year.

Their second album, 'This Means War', came out in 2012 and showed a shift toward a heavier, more experimental sound compared to their earlier pop-punk style. Other songs like 'Fade With Me' and 'I Swear I'll Change' also appeared in their catalog, but the band didn't last much longer after that.
