Audio Ativo formed in São Paulo in 1997, with Rodrigo Lima on vocals and guitar, Téo Ruiz on bass, and Fred Mastrangelo on drums. They started playing experimental rock and built a following through live shows, eventually releasing their debut album 'A Vida Não Presta' in 2004.
That first album mixed heavy guitars with electronic touches and lyrics that spoke to social issues, connecting with younger listeners in Brazil. One track from it, 'Run Forage Run,' drew particular attention for its blunt take on inequality and police violence, leading to some public criticism and legal pressure.
They kept putting out records like 'Tempo Bom' in 2007, 'Fome de Racha' in 2010, and 'O Poderosa' in 2014, each one shifting their sound a bit while holding onto that raw, energetic feel. Other songs like 'Dia de Rei' and 'É o Brooklyn' show the range they worked with over those years.
