Augusto Penna came from Parintins, a small town in the Brazilian Amazon. He grew up in a family of musicians and started playing guitar early, drawing on the rhythms and folklore around him.
His song "Explosão do Romarinho" became widely known. It appeared on his 1985 album of the same name. He also released records like "Festa na Aldeia" in 1988 and "Alma do Amazonas" in 2000.
Penna worked with musicians including Gal Costa, Milton Nascimento, and Caetano Veloso. His band featured Valdir Silva on guitar, Ivanildo Nunes on bass, and Valdecir Rodrigues on drums.
