Austral formed in São Paulo in 1981 with Rafael Ramos on vocals, Walter Issa on guitar, Gilmar Diniz on bass, and Mauro Villas-Boas on drums. Their self-titled debut album came out in 1988, and the track 'Agora Ou Nunca Mais' got them noticed nationally.
Ramos and Villas-Boas left the band at some point, and Issa and Diniz brought in new members including vocalist André Pitanga. They kept recording through the 1990s and 2000s, putting out albums like 'A Semente da Guerra' in 1992 and 'Em Segredo' in 2005.
Songs like 'O Que Ficou Para Trás' and 'Todo Dia' show the straightforward rock sound they became known for in Brazil.
